The Pitch Online

Founded in 2009, The Pitch Online is Walter Johnson High School’s digital newspaper. In order to keep up with new media trends, the originally print-only newspaper The Pitch went online, while still producing its monthly, award-winning print newspaper. After a year of working with barely any web design help, we wanted the appearance of our site to match the high quality of its content. So,we partnered with School Newspapers Online, a Minnesota-based company focused on the web design of specifically online high school newspapers, and launched a completely new Web site right after the start of the school-year. Our site is now capable of having more photo galleries, videos, audio and eye-catching graphics on the homepage.

With only editors having distinct online or print titles, the majority of our staff is “neutral,” allowing them to work for both print and online. As opposed to last year, when the online and print staffs were in separate classes, we are back to being in one big class, allowing for online and print editors to work with each other, and making it easy to do online-print collaborations.

As we are still adapting to our new site and trying to attract readers, we would really appreciate any input on The Pitch Online, what you would like to see more of online and what we could do to make you check out our site more often.
