On Saturday, Apr. 25, some of the most recognizable names in the press and media gathered at the White House for the annual White House Correspondents Dinner. The night was full of big names and big laughs.  The Pitch Online reviews some highlights from the night:

President Obama introduced us to his anger translator

Cool, calm and collected President Obama brought out Keegan-Michael Key of “Key and Peele” fame to play Luther, his “anger translator” that could release his inner rage. Obama spoke diplomatically, and Luther followed with loud, angry remarks to show Obama’s “true” inner monologue.  Some of the best zingers were “I mean, really.  What is this dinner? And why am I required to come to it? Jeb Bush, do you really want to do this?” and “CNN, thank you so much for the wall-to-wall Ebola coverage. For two whole weeks, we were one step away from ‘The Walking Dead.’ Then y’all got up and just moved on to the next day. That was awesome. Oh, and by the way, if you haven’t noticed, you don’t have Ebola.”

Cecily Strong was a stellar host

Saturday Night Live star gave a great performance that will surely increase her fan base by delivering a hilarious 20-minute speech that skewered the media and delivered quite a few truth-bombs.  Some of the Weekend Update anchor’s best jokes included, “Since I’m only a comedian, I’m not going to try and tell you how to do politics.  That would be like you guys telling me what to do with my body.  I mean, can you even imagine? Crazy.” and “I’m excited about Hillary running, though I’m not sure she’s excited about having to run. I imagine she feels the same way Meryl Streep feels when she’s asked to audition for something.”

President Obama had us laughing

The president proved he has a sense of humor by mocking himself, his supporters and his criticizers. Some of his best burns included,  “Michele Bachmann predicted I would bring about the Biblical end of days. Now that’s big. … Lincoln, Washington — they didn’t do that,” and “Those Joe Biden shoulder massages are like magic. You should try one.” [Pause.] “Oh, you have?”

Obama’s approval ratings may be at 48 percent, but he got 100 percent of laughs.  Well, maybe Fox News wasn’t laughing.
