Teacher of the Week: Rachel Gold

Rachel Gold teaches AP Language and Composition as well as an SAT/ACT prepatory class. She has been teaching for 10 years: five years at Bethesda Chevy-Chase High School, one year at Westland Middle School, and is in her fourth year at WJ.

What are your interests outside of school?
I enjoy running half marathons, spending time with my fiancé, friends and family, exploring D.C., and traveling to fun, exciting places.

Do you have any favorite television shows or movies?
I’m obsessed with “Homeland.” I love everything about it. I also like “New Girl” and “Modern Family” and I have to admit–for a guilty, mindless pleasure I enjoy watching “The Bachelor” and “[The] Bachelorette”–mainly because the contestants entertain me and the entire premise is ridiculous. It is a nice escape.

Can you describe a typical Saturday for yourself?

Well, if I’m not grading essays with Ms. [Sylvie] Ellen at a Starbucks or Panera in D.C…I am most likely going to a spin class or running with some of my girlfriends and then spending the day with my fiancé or with friends.

What do you hope to accomplish in your lifetime?

I would like to raise a family–I have always wanted to be a mom. I hope to teach for several more years and as cliché as it is–make a difference in the lives of students. I would like to travel the world, explore, maybe run another marathon and stay energetic–I know it can be hard to maintain.
