Read below to see the complete list of winners from WJ’s Debate and Forensics teams, continued from the Mar. 23 issue of The Pitch:

Debate

Team captains Kate Coughlin, Miranda Mlilo, Seungyeon Jung and Lea Widemann emerged from the County Debate Championships as the top four debaters out of 300 debaters from 22 high schools in all of Montgomery County.
Coughlin and Mlilo defeated Jung and Widemann in the final round of the final to win the County Championship in Public Forum Debate.

Other WJ debaters who made the County’s Round of 16:

  • Jeffrey Cirillo and Shaina Rudman (made the Round of Eight)
  • Miriam Sieradzki and Sally Tuszynski
  • Dani Arons and Jimmy Wyderko

Jacob Lu and Zelin Liu were awarded Best Regular Season Record plaques for their 9-1 (win-loss) record. Mlilo and Coughlin also won Best Regular Second Record plaques for their 9-1 record during the regular season.

Forensics

  • Ramsay Burgess: Outstanding Speaker for the 2014-2015 Season, First Place in Readers’ Theater, Second Place in Drama, Second Place in Ensemble Acting and an Excellence Award
  • Izzy Salant: Outstanding Novice Award, Third Place in Extemporaneous Speaking, Fourth Place in Persuasive Speaking, Sixth Place in Drama and an Excellence Award
  • Yuval Luger: an Excellence Award, Fifth Place in Children’s Literature and Fourth Place in Ensemble Acting
  • Michael Gaba: First Place in Extemporaneous Speaking
  • Sean Mahoney: First Place in Humor and Second Place in Ensemble Acting
  • Ben Simon: Third Place in Persuasive Speaking
  • Hannah Wilcove: Fourth Place in Children’s Literature and 4th Place in Ensemble Acting
  • Amanda Tang: Third Place in Children’s Literature
  • Sammy Siegel: Sixth Place in Children’s Literature and Fourth Place in Ensemble Acting
  • Marek Haar: Fifth Place in Drama
  • Zelin Liu: Sixth Place in Informative Speaking
  • In Readers’ Theater, Ramsay Burgess, Julia Souza and Mandy Spiwak took First Place with their rendition of “Fat Kids on Fire” by Bekah Brunstetter. Other award winners in Readers’ Theater for WJ were Ray Macedonia, Adam Rarey and Izzy Salant.
  • Ramsay Burgess and Sean Mahoney performed a scene from “Via,” a play by WJ alumnus Nicholas (Coty) Nova and won Second place for Ensemble Acting.
