United States- The Associated Press (AP) was caught in the middle of a Justice Department leak investigation, and is protesting after finding out the Justice Department secretly collected phone records from several AP reporters last year. As of now, it is unclear exactly what was being investigated, but the AP believes it to be linked to the CIA trying to stop a terrorist plot. There have also been other scandals, such as an incident in Benghazi, which involved a “cover-up” of a terrorist attack. These controversial events are putting the Obama administration up for much criticism by conservative opponents. (Source: NPR)
Globe- Under the pressure of two years of civil war, Syria has started to break into separate colonies. Many different armed groups are creating separate fiefs, compromising the integrity of the country and its central government. The fiefs are making the central government obsolete and there is no telling when any central power will be able to regain control. The war in Syria has been fought for two years, in which rebels are fighting against the Syrian leader, Basar al-Assad, and his government. (Source: New York Times)
