Opinion Blast: The Three Best Super Bowl Commercials

The mayhem of Super Bowl commercials was in full force this year with usual slate of controversial, funny and disappointing on tap. Here are the three best commercials we saw:

1. Budweiser “The Brotherhood”: This adorable ad follows a man and a horse’s relationship as the horse grows up. Eventually the horse leaves the man to become one of the Budweiser’s signature horses. The man ends up going to a Budweiser horse parade to see him again and wistfully watches him trot by. He dejectedly walks back to his car when he turns around and sees the horse trotting towards him. They embrace, which generates untold amounts of “Awwwwwww!!!” around the nation. The ad is cute and stirs that warm fuzzing feeling inside.

2. Hyundai “Team”: In past years Hyundai’s Super Bowl commercials have been downright terrible, an awful middleground between funny and emotionally powerful that results in. . . a normal commercial, which isn’t what you want in a super bowl ad. However this year’s effort was funny and had a feel good effect. The ad begins with a quintessential bully and his gang picking on a smaller kid, telling him he can’t play football until he assembles a team. The boy proceeds to use his mom’s Hyundai to go around and find a team of ridiculously macho kids to play football. The ad ends with football being punted into the bully’s chest, which certainly puts a smile on everybody’s face.

3. Wheat Thins “Night Vision”: This was an underrated commerial, one that didn’t generate much response on social media, but was hilarious nevertheless. The commercial features a husband that is going to protect his Wheat Thins by staying up with them and using night vision goggles, much to the chagrin of his wife. As soon as the lights go out there is a large crash, and the wife turns the lights back on to find her husband wrestling with the mythological Bigfoot. The ad is simple, unexpected and funny, a perfect recipe for a super bowl ad.
