Anders Answers: Bullying

Anders Answers: Bullying

Dear Anders,

A lot of kids have been badmouthing me or making fun of me without getting to know me. They make fun of me for no reason and I am not sure how to deal with these types of kids. So my question is, how would you deal with people bullying you who don’t even know you or already have assumptions about you?
Sincerely,
Bullied Boy
Dear Bullied Boy,
People are jerks. No matter where you go or who you are, there will always be someone who dislikes you. The important thing to do is to ignore this person or people, because they don’t know you and therefore don’t know what they are talking about. If you want to actually have these people get to know you, the best way is to start interacting with them. Don’t come on too strong, just talk to them about normal things like school and classes. Never talk too much, because the only thing people hate more than a loudmouth is an annoying one. Don’t get too offended by what they say; those people are probably sad, lonely souls with nothing better to do than talk badly about another human being. Another idea is just allow this to continue, except be mean back. Like the saying goes, fight fire with fire, because fire and fire creates more fire, which is good. Eventually someone worse will come along and they’ll focus on them instead.
Sincerely,
Anders
