JonBenet 20th Anniversary

JonBenet 20th Anniversary

Christmas day, 1996. America’s sweetheart was found dead in her basement. The kidnapping and murder of JonBenet Ramsey was one of the most controversial cases of all time. Now, 20 years later, the investigation is still open. Ramsey was the Honey Boo Boo of the 1990s. The young, beautiful pageant queen America had grown to love. Although many people suspected that the kidnapping was staged in order to protect a family member from prison, the verdict concluded that the 6 year old pageant queen was taken for ransom and murdered by a foreign alliance. Many people believe this to be the truth, but there isn’t a real closure.

Many people have suspected that Patsy, Ramsey’s mother, wrote the ransom note in a panic to protect herself. In addition, CBS’s 20th Anniversary documentary of the case ponders that Ramsey’s older brother may have killed her with a blow to the skull. I have trouble believing that a nine year boy could be so enraged as to accidentally kill his sister; however, I don’t think the crime was committed by someone outside the household.

I firmly believe that both Ramsey’s mother and father were involved in the crime in some manner. What I find especially interesting is that no one has really questioned Ramsey’s father’s involvement in the case. He was the one who found JonBenet dead in the basement. How did he know she was down there? She was covered in blankets, too. How did he know it was her? If Ramsey’s father was involved, I believe Patsy was definitely involved, too. Either it was both of them or neither of them.

Furthermore, one of the most befuddling aspects of the case is the ransom note. Three pages long, the ransom note had to have taken 15 to 20 minutes minimum just to write. In addition, the pad of paper and the pen used were found in their original places within the Ramsey household. That means that if an intruder had come in, they had to have gotten the materials, wrote the note, kidnapped JonBenet and returned the materials to their correct spots without any of the Ramseys noticing. It doesn’t make any sense! The crime must have been committed within the family.
