-- Boys Volleyball -- Team Record: 8-4 Playoff Result: First round loss to Damascus Key Players: Senior setter Henry Tollefson and junior setter Jeremy Lee Most Improved: Senior defense specialist Reza Kolahdouzan Season Highlight: Beating Churchill on March 25, Blake victory on April 27 Athletes Take: "The team was like one big melting pot. We basically had a bunch of kids that weren’t really friends before, but we all worked together and had a great season." –Tollefson Coach’s Insight: "They were all working together and playing as a cohesive unit. When they walked off the court [after the playoff loss], they realized that they were a lot better than when they had started." - Sylvie Ellen
-- Baseball -- Team Record: 10-7 Playoff Result: 1-1, won against Springbrook in the first round and lost to Whitman in second round Key Players: Junior pitcher Robin Mowatt and junior catcher Carson Kenney Most Improved: Senior outfielder/pitcher James Kim Season Highlight: 2-1 victory over Blake in a dominating pitching performance by senior pitcher Carl Yaffe Athlete’s Take: "At the beginning of the season, we thought we’d have a pretty good shot and make it all the way to states. But, by the end, we didn’t play as well as we could have." - Yaffe Coach’s Insight: "With the crop of juniors we have, we should be in good shape for next season." - Kim Ahearn -- Softball -- Team Record: 9-7 Playoff Result: First round loss to Blake Key Players: Senior Natasha Vujcic and junior Roya Hakimzadeh Most Improved: Freshman shortstop Sarah Bernstein Season Highlight: Lopsided victory against Northwest, 15-6 Athlete’s Take: "So far this was the best season, winning more than the years past combined. Hopefully next year will be even better." - Junior Kat Gratton Coach’s Insight: "I wouldn’t be a coach if I didn’t say there is always something we can improve on, but this team played exceptional softball all season and has turned the WJ softball program around into something exciting and competitive. Just wait until next season." - Jamie Ahearn -- Coed Volleyball -- Team Record: 2-10 Playoff Result: Did not qualify Key Players: Freshman Halid Hamadi, senior Kevin Smith and junior Kathy Pao Most Improved: Sophomore Scott Goldman Season Highlight: Richard Montgomery victory on April 22 Athlete’s Take: "We were hindered by inexperience, but still able to pick up fundamentals quickly and apply them to in-game situations although we did not always receive the results we wanted."- Smith Coach’s Insight: "The season was good, everybody improved, the team improved." - Bill Morris -- Track & Field -- Team Record: Boys 4-1, Girls 4-1 Playoff Result: Boys 4x800 came in third at states, senior Duane Wilson qualified for states final heat in the 100M, junior Ishan Dey finished in sixth place in 3200M and junior Sean O’Leary finished in fifth place in 1600M Key Players: Juniors Martin Dally, Sean O’Leary, Jenna Willett and senior Duane Wilson Most Improved: Sophomore Camille Bouvet and junior Ishan Dey Season Highlight: Qualifying more than 20 athletes for states Athlete’s Take: "Coach Martin did a great job of helping us to exploit all of our talent and potential."- Bouvet Coach’s Insight: "WJ has established a tradition that creates an environment where kids are willing to work." - Tom Martin -- Gymnastics -- Team Record: 6-1 Playoff Result: Fourth place in county finals Key Players: Senior Jennifer Roche, sophomore Shannon Mitchell and freshman Emily Newcomb
Most Improved: Sophomore Kailey Dickison Season Highlight: Losing only one match all season Athlete’s Take: "The team had a great season. During the regular season we only lost to one team [B-CC] and in the counties we were about a point away from third." - Roche Coach’s Insight: "The season was amazing because gymnastics was almost cut [as an after-school sport] but the girls, especially Jenny Roche really fought for it." - Ursula Bright -- Boys Lacrosse -- Team Record: 9-2 Playoff Result: 1-1 (first round bye), second round victory against Richard Montgomery and loss to Sherwood in regional quarterfinals Key Players: Senior attacker Daniel Cohen and senior defender Charlie Hartley Most Improved: Senior defender Patrick Durbin Season Highlight: 8-6 victory at Churchill on April 17 Athlete’s Take: "Coach Jon Mayer has kept a competitive team each year he has been at WJ, and I have all the faith that he will be able to field a good team next year." - Senior goalie Jon Silberman Coach’s Insight: "We have very talented guys coming back. We need to find a new goalie to replace Jon [Silberman]; big shoes to fill in." - Jon Mayer -- Boys Tennis -- Team Record: 10-2 Playoff Result: Fifth place in the county tournament Key Players: Freshman Jordan Krasner and sophomore Eric Duong Most Improved: Senior Elad Oushia Season Highlight: Clinching the Division II title after beating Clarksburg Athlete’s Take: "The [Division II] competition level is a lot different than in Division I. I’m looking forward to moving back up [to Division I] next year." - Junior David Lee Coach’s Insight: "We did pretty well in the playoffs, taking fifth. Not bad for a Division II team." - Mike Laukaitis
