It was a great way to end WJ Football 2009. The Wildcats pounded the Richard Montgomery Rockets 49-0 to end the season with a three-game winning streak.

WJ couldn’t find a way to win in the first game in their new stadium. The team couldn’t come home with a victory after homecoming. But on senior night, senior running back Michael Pitsenberger and senior defensive back Garrett Schiponi, along with a crew of other inspired seniors, stepped up.

It was muddy, wet and cold. Even with moaning and groaning from the student section of the WJ stadium, there was a football game to be played.

It was same old same old for football on Friday night. The team had another opportunity to get their first win of the season against 0-5 B-CC. But, once again, the team could not maintain focus for the whole 48 minutes and could not step up under pressure when the game hung in the balance.

The optimism and hope that accompanied a fresh start for WJ football have slowly slipped away. WJ lost to Gaithersburg 35-6, falling short in a game that many thought the Wildcats would have a chance to win.

As students filed into WJ's football stadium on a cold, rainy, September evening, the score was already 6-0 within the first minute of the game.

It was a night for new beginnings: new stadium, new coach, new quarterback and a new, foreign feeling at half time. As the clock counted down the final seconds of the first half, families and students alike basked in a 10-0 WJ lead.
