On Sept. 8, the devastated boys' soccer team left the Wootton parking lot in shock. After playing with all their heart and soul, they still left empty. For about the first 20 minutes of the game, they kept it close by possessing the ball and getting back on defense. When Wootton scored the first goal of the game, things went downhill from there.

"Once they scored, we lost focus and we lost intensity," said junior defender Daniel Spencer.

Although the team was only down 0-1 at half-time, Wootton scored again in the second half off a corner kick.

"We definitely need to work on defending corner kicks," said sophomore striker Harrison Gibert. "We can't let them hold the ball that close to our goal."

For the final 15 minutes, WJ fought hard to get the ball back and put it in the net. This paid off in the last 30 seconds, when senior striker Nick Castro scored on a penalty kick. Once Wootton kicked off and put the ball back into play, time ran out, and WJ came up short 1-2.
