RG3 Suffers Yet Another Devastating Injury

RG3 Suffers Yet Another Devastating Injury

On just the second game into the 2014 NFL season, Redskins star quarterback Robert Griffin III “RG3” suffered another potentially season-ending injury against the Jacksonville Jaguars.  Only a year removed from his second ACL surgery, RG3 is no stranger to catastrophic injuries. In all of his 2013 campaign, he was seen hobbling around the field, clearly not at full strength. This year, in his first two games, RG3 appeared to be pain-free, moving around the field with confidence. Only three minutes into the second game, the star quarterback seemed to have turned his ankle severely trying to get a pass off. He then spent 10 minutes lying still on the ground, before being carted off with a large brace supported around his ankle. Viewers could notice RG3 get emotional as tears streamed down his face while he was being carted off, saluting fans.

Fans may have seen the last of RG3 in a Redskins jersey this season, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. The Redskins have another sensational quarterback who some argue is even more talented. Backup quarterback Kirk Cousins led the Redskins to a 41-10 victory, throwing for 250 yards and two touchdowns. In the off-season, many fans, including coach Jay Gruden, questioned whether or not RG3 was worth the starting job. RG3 was shut down 12 games into the season last year and many believed that Cousins did a much better job of showcasing his talent in the last four games of the season.

RG3’s latest diagnosis is a dislocated left ankle with no fractures. Gruden and others have stated that it is possible he will return before the end of the 2014 season, but at that point, they will need to evaluate whether RG3 is truly worthy of the job over Cousins. All in all, things are not looking promising for the quarterback. He’s spent an obscene amount of time recovering from his many injuries, and it’s hard to believe he will come back just as dominant as he was in his rookie year. Unfortunately, it seems that the Redskins may need to restart their hunt for a franchise quarterback.
