On Wed., Feb. 16, one of WJ’s most popular Pennies 4 Patients events will return – WJ Bachelors. Bachelors consists of different male students being “auctioned off” to go on dates with student bidders. All the money paid, as well as the $5 entry fee, is donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Senior Lindsay Grymes, one of the Leadership students organizing the event, has high hopes that the auction will be a success.
“In past years, Bachelors has raised around $2,000, so this year we are trying to raise $2,500,” Grymes said.
Male students from all different grades were recruited to participate in the event. Sophomore Jake Steinberg will be an eligible bachelor for the second year in a row.
“I had a great experience with it last year and it’s good to know that all the money goes to cancer research,”Steinberg said. “Also, it’s pretty fun having a bunch of girls bid on you for a date.”
Past dates have included everything from going to the movies to watching a Capitals game at the Verizon Center.
“Coming up with dates for some people was pretty hard,”Grymes said.
Steinberg feels the bidding is the most nerve-wracking part of the experience, but can still be fun.
“[My favorite part] is having the chance to go onstage and strut your stuff,” he said.
Head to the auditorium at 7:15 on Feb. 16 to see how the auction goes down.
