Open Mics at Local Restaurant

Open+Mics+at+Local+Restaurant

There’s a new youth open mic opportunity at Darnestown restaurant, Quench. The competition specializes in songwriting and the winner gets $100. The youth songwriting open mic was created by Kelly Diamond and Jay Keating who host other open mics for all ages at the restaurant.

Two people competed for the $100 at Quench last Friday. A couple more people were supposed to come but couldn’t for personal reasons.

“It’s for ages 21 and under,” Diamond said.

There were three judges including Keating and Diamond along with local songwriter Matt Holson.

“We decided not to judge just because someone is older than another,” Keating said. “There were really good songs by both artists tonight that were really well written and we based it on lyrics and performance.”

Songwriter Kelley Doyle won the songwriting competition last Friday with her song “Walk That Kind of Line”, which is inspired by the late country singer Johnny Cash and his song “Walk the Line.”

The next youth songwriter open mic is Friday, April 8 at Quench. All songwriters, whether freshmen or a seniors are welcome to join the competition.
