Home- From Oct. 7-12, WJ celebrated spirit week leading up to the homecoming game and dance on Oct. 12 and 13. Types of spirit for each day included Denim Day on Monday, America Day on Tuesday, Would You Be My Friend If? (wacky) Wednesday, Retro Baller Day on Thursday and Decades Day on Friday. On Oct. 12 there was also a special bell schedule (extended 3rd period) for the viewing of the homecoming video, starred the SGA. The video was mainly a parody of “The Avengers” but there were also some other spoofs of movies like “Anchorman.” (Source: Walter Johnson)

United States- On Oct.9, a new study was released showing that the number of Protestants in the United States is at a steep decline. At the same time, the number of athiests or people with “no religion” is increasing.  Forty years ago, Protestant churches contained about two-thirds of the population while athiests only made up seven percent of it. Now, they make up 15 percent. As Protestant faith declines, no faith climbs back up. (Source: The New York Times)

Globe- It was reported Oct. 9 that the United States sent a secret task force to help the military with the current crisis in Syria. The force is based in Jordan and it is there to help with all the Syrian refugees as well, which, according to the United Nations, total around 100,000. The main focus is also to make sure if something goes awry in Syria, the United States can stop the approaching turmoil. (Source: The New York Times)
