On the evening of Jan. 8, in the cafeteria, the Persian Culture Club had its first ever Persian Culture Night hosted by its three co-presidents, seniors Mitra Ebrahimi, Donna Honarpisheh and Christine Walsh.
“We’ve been talking about planning a Persian night for a while but it started with Donna’s senior project about showing Persian instruments,” said Ebrahimi. “So we just combined Donna’s senior project with our original idea and created Persian Culture Night.”
The Persian Club started selling tickets for six dollars during lunch for two weeks, but at the door it was eight. In total, the club made about $750 and sold 120 tickets.
At the Persian Culture Night, there were various cuisines and desserts from different parts of Iran, an assortment of music played by seniors Honarpisheh, Ebrahimi, Neema Shabestari, Annie Sim and Ha Young Kim, and two dances performed by WJ alum Sima Jafari, senior Atoussa Halary, Ebrahimi and Walsh.
The profits of Persian Culture Night are going to the Children of Persia charity, which helps children in Iran who are unable to afford a decent education and health care.
“Persian Culture Night was successful in that we had a large turnout and we were also able to reach our goals of increasing awareness of the Iranian culture and sharing its rich civilization,” said
