WJ Hosts Student Member of the Board of Education Nominating Convention

On Mar. 7,  the WJ auditorium held the nominating convention to narrow down the four contenders for the 2013-2014 Student Member of the Board of Education (SMOB) to two.

Justin Kim (Poolesville), Christina McCann (Montgomery Blair), Andrew Zhang (Richard Montgomery) and Richie Yarrow (Richard Montgomery) sat down and answered questions that were e-mailed as well as answers from the plethora of middle and high school students in attendance.

After the candidates discussed their different opinions on start times, budgets for arts programs and attendance policies for about an hour, the voting for the final two candidates began. Each student who attended then visited the writing lab to cast their ballot. At around five p.m. that evening, the results rang out and juniors Kim and Zhang came out on top.

The next event at which students will choose their candidate will be during the MCPS TV program “Meet the Candidates” later this year.
