Home- On Wed. April 24, WJ students took part in the voting process to choose between two candidates, MCPS  students Justin Kim and Andrew Zhang, to elect the next Student Member of the Board (SMOB). Later that evening, the results were announced and Kim claimed victory. During the months leading up to the election, the candidates visited different Montgomery County schools and introduced themselves to students in hopes of winning votes. The day before the election, WJ students viewed the Meet the Candidates video during an adjusted double third period schedule.

United States- When Boston Marathon Bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev recovers from his injuries, he will be sent to a high security prison and wait for a trial that could be two years away, according to NBC. According to the article, Tsarnaev’s condition improved on Tues., April 23 but his injuries were so drastic he had to communicate by writing. Doctors have stated the injuries may be from a bomb blast during the high speed chase that killed his brother, as well as gun shots exchanged when Dzhokhar was discovered. Other than this, the hospital and FBI have not released any other information regarding his treatment, or when he will be released. Globe- On Wed. April 24, an eight-story building in Bangladesh collapased, killing 386 so far, injuring hundreds and trapping an unknown amount of people under the destruction. Police have pulled out 29 survivors as well. The collapse took place in Savar, a suburb outside the capital, Dhaka, and the building was home to several garment factories. The incident has been recorded as the largest accident concerning the Bangladesh garment industry. The cause is still unknown. (Source: New York Times)
