Up at Bat: If You Were a Super Student, What Would Your Super Power Be?

Peter Parker was just in high school when he was bitten by a radioactive spider and transformed into a crime-fighting and skyscraper-climbing human spider. The Disney movie Sky High featured an entire school of teenage heroes and sidekicks, all with their own unique super powers. So what if WJ was filled with super students who had powers that could help them make it through their school days?

So many stresses fill our school lives: homework, getting to class on time, getting good grades and still trying to find time to study for the SAT/ACT and fill out college applications. When we were little, we all wished for a robot that could do our chores and homework for us. What’s better is having our own super powers to help us accomplish these tasks.

As a rather short person, my daily struggle is always to worm my way through the crowds of students in the hallways. My power would be to have a force field around my body that would clear all students out of the path to my class. I would no longer be jostled around in the hallway, but instead would have a bubble of space around myself, making my trek to class much smoother.

Another option would be to have superhuman strength to minimize the weight of my backpack. Especially for all the students who have sports equipment, having the ability to lift the entire school, much less their backpack, would come in very handy. Of course none of us would want to look like the Incredible Hulk. It would be better if this power came in more of a Mr. Incredible form, where students still maintain their normal shape.

Teleportation would also be very useful for students who frequent G-Square for lunch or for those who despise riding the bus. The ability to appear in the exact location of your mind’s eye in the blink of an eye and back again would save a lot of time and would be especially appreciated on cold rainy days. All you would have to do is turn on the spot like a Harry Potter apparition and you would be exactly where you wanted to go.

And for those strict, no-nonsense kinds of teachers, it would be nice to utilize the Jedi mind tricks. In the case of a poor grade on a test, you would only have to repeat “you want to give me an A” and your teacher would involuntarily comply.

Select your super power wisely though, because with great power, comes great responsibility.

Liz Wasden, Print Editorial Editor
Liz Wasden, Print Editorial Editor, has now been a part of The Pitch for two years, because she really enjoys eating dinner out of the vending machines, staring at a computer for four plus hours, and muttering things like “I can't find the peanuts!”, “Why isn’t baby dancing?” and “90 pt. leading?? I’d like to see that!” When she’s not planning white space, Liz enjoys playing guitar, painting, chilling in K-Town and taking extensive AP European History notes. Liz wants to major in Communications in college, and ultimately go into the journalistic field, although her one true dream is to be interviewed by James Lipton on Inside the Actor’s Studio. Liz loves the camaraderie of her Pitch family and enjoys trying to come up with punny headlines for articles (like Krithi’s “Snow you didn’t!” for the snow storm of last year) almost as much as she enjoys fundraising for The Pitch.
