Boys Soccer

Boys varsity soccer had their season end Tuesday against the seventh ranked Magruder team in a thrilling double overtime finish. With the regional championship on the line, the Colonels managed to squeak in a late goal following a corner kick. The team had a successful season, going 13-3-1 overall and won their first two playoff games in the 4A West region, beating Wootton and Northwest.

After the Wootton victory, coach Mike Williams said, “I want them to play to their potential and always give 100% effort, so when its short of that I am not always pleased, but I am definitely pleased with the result of the game.”

Standout player: Daniel Spencer

Senior Spencer was the heart and soul of the WJ defense. His speed, intelligence and leadership made him one of the premier defenders in Montgomery County.

Daniel Gorelik
Daniel Gorelik, Onilne Assistant Sports Editor
A quirky character, Daniel enjoys many fun-filled activities. When it comes to sports, his favorites are soccer and tennis. He always tries to go out on adventures and those who know him, know that he has the imagination of a six-year-old (that’s a good thing). If someone gave him a box to play with, he would think of so many games that no Xbox could compete with him. Aside from that, in his spare time he enjoys just hanging out with friends or watching some TV. His favorite shows include “Entourage,” probably one the greatest shows ever created, and various other comedies like “Two and a Half Men” and “Seinfeld.” If you ever decide to find him, he'll probably be taking a walk along the beach or reading a book by the sunset.
