Junior defenseman Ethan Opdahl warms up before practice.

The spring season is fast approaching and the boys’ lacrosse team is preparing for their season opener at home against Springbrook on March 27. Last year, the Wildcats were eliminated by Wootton in the first round of the playoffs in a nail biting 8-7 loss. This year they are looking to come together and improve upon a solid season in hopes of a deeper playoff run and continued success.

“We had a disappointing end to our season last year and we want to greatly improve our work ethic and mentality in order to be more competitive this year,” senior attacker Jose Anza said.

Not only do the Cats have goals to reach higher success this season but they also have new goals that they hope to achieve.

“I want to have a winning record, beat our rivals like BCC and grow the WJ lacrosse culture to make the program stronger for future generations of players,” senior defender James Pioli said.

Anza also agrees that one of his biggest goals of this season is to beat their rivals and finish with a winning record. However, he also points out the difficulties that lie ahead.

“We need to focus on rebuilding this year as we lost 13 seniors last year. We just need to focus on being the best players we can and playing unselfishly and well together,” Anza said.

The team will undoubtedly have some challenges to overcome, but they believe that with the right work ethic and mind set that they will have a competitive season.
