With a 9-1 record so far this season, the team is dominating Division II, a step down from the elite Division I where they were last season. So far, with a record to prove it, the team has been able to defeat almost all of their competitors without breaking a sweat.
“We’d rather be in Division I because we killed everyone in Division II,” said senior Elad Oushia. “But if we’ll be in Division I, we’ll probably be one of the top five teams [in the division].”
Losing a majority of their games last year with a record of 4-7, boys tennis has been able to redeem themselves with eight out of their 10 games being won with scores of 7-0.
Also, with half of the team being underclassmen, the team sees no trouble keeping up their success when the seniors leave. The two new freshmen additions, Wojtek Bieganski and Jordan Krasner have demonstrated their significance to the team this season and will continue to be valuable players in the upcoming years.
“The team is going to be good because we have Jordan Krasner who is the best freshman in Montgomery County,” said
Oushia.
The team still has two games left to complete the season and then is off to states. Defeating Churchill and Clarksburg are what the team hopes to achieve, especially since losing to Churchill 7-0 last year. The team thinks they’ll be able to beat Clarksburg, but knows it will be difficult to defeat Churchill (Division I).
“The [Churchill] game will be a measuring stick game to see how well we stack up with the Division I teams,” said coach Mike Laukitis. “We expect to be in Division I next year.”
With a boost of confidence and a winning spirit, the team hopes to finish off the season victoriously and earn back their spot in Division I.
