The girls tennis team started off its season well during its first match today at Quince Orchard. The team won all matches, both singles and doubles, and freshman Arielle Hartz shined in her first game of high school tennis.

The team also proved themselves without key players who were lost to graduation last year.

“It’s pretty tough [without] our singles players [from last year],” said senior Ella Zhang. “But, we have some talented new players.”

Among the new players, Hartz won both of her singles matches 6-1. Also, doubles-pair junior Lita Talisman and sophomore Sarah Breen had a shut-out, winning both matches 6-0.

Sophomore Sarah Bernstein’s match was the longest, which coach Mike Laukaitis accredited to a “good pairing.” However, Bernstein still won both sets while her teammates watched and cheered her on.

The team has high hopes for the season, especially with its next game on Tuesday, Sept. 8 being on the team’s home courts at WJ.

“I think we’re going to look great,” said Zhang.
