Weekly Sports Power Rankings

Weekly Sports Power Rankings

Over the past week in sports, all the WJ fall sport teams have competed. Here are this week’s rankings:

  1. Golf- The WJ Golf team won the Montgomery County Public School Coed District Tournament at Poolesville in a playoff against Wootten.
  2. Cross Country– The  team came in fourth at the Carlisle invitational behind nationally ranked opponents.
  3. Boys’ Soccer- The boys won their one game this week 5-0 over Clarksburg. Nabayee Tesufu had four goals.
  4. Tennis- The girls won their one match over Richard Montgomery 5-2.
  5.  Volleyball- The girls won their one match over Richard Montgomery in straight sets after key plays by Kristen Larrick.
  6. Field Hockey- The team won their one match over Gaithersburg 7-0.
  7. Football- The team lost a close game to Wooten after tying the game in the third quarter, the lone touchdown was scored by Charlie Barry.
  8. Girls’ Soccer– Although they were favored, the girls lost their one match to Clarksburg 1-0.

Senior Ben Resnick is Co-Editor-in-Chief for The Pitch print edition. Ben began his career on The Pitch as a sophomore, serving as the online sports section editor and the print assistant section editor he continued in by becoming the sports section editor his junior year. Ben also runs cross country in addition to indoor and outdoor track. When he is not competing, he plays basketball, baseball and street hockey. This past summer, Ben worked in the office of biostatistics at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. He is excited to help lead a large motivated group of journalists.
