The boys’ swim team had a fantastic performance at the Washington Metropolitan Interscholastic Swimming and Diving Championships, placing fifth out of 31 teams, losing to only one public school, Montgomery Blair. The girls’ team also had a good performance, finishing eighth out of 33 teams.
Senior Barry Mangold had an outstanding performance finishing third in the 50 yard freestyle and second in the 100 yard freestyle. The boys’ 200 yard freestyle relay finished second just behind the Gonzaga relay team. The standout girl at Metros was junior captain Natsumi Horikawa, who came in fifth in the 100 yard backstroke.
The state championship swim meet is at the UMCP Eppley Recreational Center on Feb. 23. The boys’ hope to win their secondstraight state tittle, where the girls hope to improve on their sixth place finish last year.
