WJ’s softball team huddle up before game time. The team’s spring season ended abruptly after a loss to Whitman.

Walter Johnson softball returned to the postseason once again as the number one seed in the region. After last year’s run to the state quarterfinals, the 11-3 Wildcats were hoping to make another great run starting with the Whitman game on May 17, but the team lost a tough one to them in the regional semi-finals. In the words of Coach Richard Carter, this season has truly been a “team” effort. Every player has made a contribution to the team through their leadership or playing ability.
“It was a good season because for the most part we played really well as a team and we’re a really young team and everyone is developing really well,” sophomore Sami Rosenberg said.
Their season came to an abrupt end after the Wildcats were pummeled 17-1 in the regional semi-finals by the Whitman Vikings.

Rosenberg has continued to be the number one pitcher she was last year. Sophomore Carly Gilder and junior Maya Rickles have shored up the middle of the infield defensively and junior Brooke Levin has been an amazing hitter and first baseman for the team. They hope to be back next year, better and stronger than ever.

“We are still a very young team with only one senior graduating,” Carter said.
