Many coffee-enthusiasts have heard of Kopi Luwak (also known as Wild Thai Civet Coffee), the Indonesian coffee produced by coffee berries being eaten and defecated by the Asian palm civet.

What they may not know is that it’s coming to local coffee house, Quartermaine.

“I think it’s a really great idea,” said junior Sue Smells. “It’s not only really innovative… but it’s tasty. I love it.”

Though the coffee is extraordinarily expensive, sold for $70 for a box on Dean & Deluca’s website, Quartermaine has gotten a 100% discount since it orders the coffee in bulk.

Despite its reputation in the coffee industry, the drink may or may not need more publicity. The company expects teenagers to start a fad by drinking the coffee.

Smells believes that all teenagers should at least take a chance with it.

“I know it’s really expensive, but I think everyone should have the opportunity to try it,” said Smells. She believes that it will change people’s perspectives on food.

“It will certainly give you a different taste for coffee,” she said.

The coffee will be available at Quartermaine beginning on April 1.
