The game’s simple formula hides an absolute masterpiece.

 The Binding Of Isaac (PC)

The Binding Of Isaac is a challenging, twisted and deep game, made by developer Edmund McMillen, and friend Florian Himsl, with music by the always amazing Danny Baranowsky. This game follows a boy named Isaac, who lives with his insane mom, who hears voices in her head. One day, his mother is convinced that she has heard the voice of God commanding her to kill her son. She agrees, and Isaac hides in the basement to escape her. Thus begins a twisted quest for freedom. With over 600 items, 30 bosses and 19 floors, and some of the ugliest enemies I’ve ever seen in a video game, this game is huge and amazing. It follows a permadeath formula, meaning when you die, you start from the beginning, no extra lives, no second chances, just a box of tissues and a game over screen. There is no tutorial and there are no hints. Players need to figure out the game themselves, and when you beat the game for the first time, you are so happy you forget there are multiple final bosses, multiple endings and even more items in expansion packs, and the story is amazing once you figure it out. The price for this absolute masterpiece? Only $4.99.
