What to expect from tonight’s snowstorm

By Guest writer Josh Karpatkin

Everyone knows that it is going to snow tonight. Here’s my take on it. Expect snow to start around 7 p.m. and quickly become heavy. We should pick up 4-6” by 2 a.m., when the snow will transition to sleet and freezing rain. I do not think we will see any plain rain overnight. Sleet and freezing rain will continue heavily for several hours before a transition back to snow around 7 a.m. After 7 a.m. we can pick up another 2” or so of snow. That gives a total snowfall for the WJ area of 6-8”, plus an inch or so of sleet and freezing rain. The combination of ice and snow on trees and strong winds in the morning could lead to power outages. We will almost certainly be off school tomorrow and probably Wednesday, too, but it is too early for that.
