Our Parking Fiasco

Our+Parking+Fiasco

Everyone knows that getting a good spot in our school parking lot is quite the task. In fact, if you’re not a senior, getting a parking spot is almost impossible. Many students are forced into the Davis Library parking lot across the street. In hindsight, the short walk across the street does not seem very difficult. However, when mother nature throws a rain storm your way, suddenly the short walk becomes a treacherous hike into the hell that we call school. But lately, even seniors have not been able to find spaces in the lot.

Parking passes are distributed to seniors based on the amount of available spaces in the lot. Thus, any and all students with a parking pass should be guaranteed a parking space.

The question is: Why are all the spaces already filled?

Directly across from the school lies a series of office buildings, including doctors’ offices, dentists offices and rehabilitation centers. The employees working in these buildings must pay a small fee in order to park in the lot designated for their offices. Instead of paying the fee, they have decided to park in OUR lot. This is an outrage. We have been parking in all possible spaces, we have been forced into the overflow lot, we have been parking in the middle of the lot, and enough is enough. We do not pay $37.50 to park in the middle of the lot. We pay $37.50 to park in a space. The office employees are paying nothing to take our rightful spots.

Not many people know that this is the root of our parking issue. My goal is to inform the student body of this atrocity. These office employees own cars that are not registered with the school, so although they do not have parking passes, there is no file kept requiring them to pay the fee. We must put an end to this. These are our spots, so let’s reclaim them!

Close, but not quite an “atrocity”.
