Coed Volleyball gets ready for Promising Season
April 3, 2018
As the weather gets warmer and spring sports get underway, coed varsity volleyball gets ready for what should be an exciting season. Coming off of a 6-6 record last spring, the Wildcats are hungry to get some more wins this time around.
The team has wrapped up tryouts and the roster has been finalized. This year the team has 10 males and nine females. Several of the girls played volleyball earlier this year seven of the nine were on varsity in the fall. Meanwhile, on the boys side, there are several new faces this season.
Head Coach William Morris isn’t quite sure what his expectations are for this upcoming season.
“It’s hard to tell because with the coed team most of the boys are new to the program so we have to get them caught up to speed,” Morris said.
One of those new boys who Morris was referring to is senior Patrick Domenech; this is his first year on the team and he is excited to embrace this new sport.
“I’m pretty excited about just doing well and learning as I go,” Domenech shared. “Mostly, I’m just enthusiastic to be part of the team and play a new sport that has a lot of great people in it.”.
However, while there is a cloud of uncertainty with regards to the team’s chemistry, Morris is optimistic about the team’s potential.
“In years past we’ve been fortunate enough to make the playoffs since not everyone does,” Morris said. “Our hope is to perform well enough to be able to qualify once again,” Morris said.
The season is right around the corner and the team is very excited to see what they have in store. Their first game was Wednesday, March 21 at home and they opened up the season against Montgomery Blair High School.
