Signing up for classes can be a hectic task. The new registration page on StudentVue allows a straightforward process for students to complete registrations.

It may be hard to believe, but the first semester of the 2020-2021 school year has come to an end. Because this year is unconventional, the registration process slightly changed to accommodate. Administrators and counselors have created many resources in order to help students navigate this task easily.

This year, WJ has provided students with a website filled with courses that the school is providing. It has a comprehensive list of different materials, such as core subjects and electives, that allows students to look at all the options that are offered. Additionally, there are slideshows made by teachers that gave a teaser on what to expect in the classes.

The counseling department was also readily available if any student needed help with singing up. Most counselors had an optional allotted time where students can talk about their future classes if needed. They were able to help students decide which courses they should take.

“I didn’t meet with my counselor, but I did use the course descriptions website to help choose which courses to take,” junior Abbey Danforth said.

In school, students will usually have to fill in class registrations both on paper and online, this year they are only required to fill it in online. The paper form of the registration catalog is still available for students to look over.

The process of registering classes online this year was also slightly different. Last year, MCPS used the website myMCPS for everything regarding grades and classes. It was also used for class registrations. This year, the county has moved everything to StudentVUE, which works similarly to myMCPS.

“At first it [StudentVUE] was a bit complicated, but it was easy to learn the new system,” junior Pearly Gal-Edd said.

It turns out that, for many, registering online is uncomplicated. The sign up page was easily navigated from the homepage and is also very simple. All the possible classes that students can sign up for are listed and grouped together based on each department. Overall, it seems like the registration website and process is very user friendly.

“The process was easy and straightforward. It did take me a while to pick my classes,” junior Caitlyn Rose said.
