For many WJ students, qualifying even once for the Maryland All-State Chorus is a great accomplishment. In All-State, high schoolers from all over Maryland compete for a spot in the selective choirs.
However, for junior Michael Rosenberg, he not only was accepted into All-State, but also qualified for The National Association for Music Education’s All-Eastern Choir that will perform at the Music Educators National Conference (MENC) in Providence, Rhode Island next spring.
“MENC [has] an All-Eastern Choir that [has] members from all over the Eastern seaboard and the Department of Defense states in Europe,” said Rosenberg. “…I qualified for [MENC] because of my excellence at my All-State auditions.”
Students who received the highest scores during their auditions qualified, and were asked to fill out an online application in order to be considered for a spot in the choir.
Performing in nationally accredited choirs have not been a new occurrence for Rosenberg, who has participated in the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) All-Eastern and All-National Choirs in the past. In seventh grade, he took part in the All-Eastern choir, in tenth grade was in the All-National men’s choir in Chicago, and this year participated in another choir in Providence, Rhode Island that focused solely on Latino music.
Rosenberg hopes that he will be accepted into the MENC choir.
