Weekly Sports Power Rankings

Weekly Sports Power Rankings

Over the past week, all the WJ fall sport teams have competed. Here are this week’s rankings:

  1. Field Hockey- The girls beat powerhouse B-CC for the first time since 1995.
  2. Boys’ Soccer- The soccer team had a huge 1-0 win over Wootton, a favorite for the county title.
  3. Girls’ Volleyball- The team beat Poolesville and Northwood to keep its undefeated record.
  4. Girls’ Soccer- The girls beat Wootten and Northwest to emerge as a contender in the county.
  5. Cross Country- They came in fifth at the October Fest Invitational behind a strong performance by senior James Duncan.
  6. Girls’ Tennis – The girls beat Richard Montgomery and Blair improving their record to 8-2.
  7. Football- The football team lost to Damascus 27-56 but played them tight in the first half. Senior Charlie Barry had a big game.
  8. Golf- Golf finished fifth at the county championship, led by senior Evan Shapiro. Four boys and two girls advanced to the state meet.

Senior Ben Resnick is Co-Editor-in-Chief for The Pitch print edition. Ben began his career on The Pitch as a sophomore, serving as the online sports section editor and the print assistant section editor he continued in by becoming the sports section editor his junior year. Ben also runs cross country in addition to indoor and outdoor track. When he is not competing, he plays basketball, baseball and street hockey. This past summer, Ben worked in the office of biostatistics at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. He is excited to help lead a large motivated group of journalists.
