Varsity Field Hockey: Sept. 9, 4-0

In their first game of their season, the varsity field hockey team started off on a good note by dominating against Northwest, winning with a final score of 4-0.

Although the team arrived excited to finally play a home in the new stadium and prepared for the opening of their season, they got off to a bit of a slow start during the first half.

“The whole first half we were dominating and in their circle,” said sophomore midfielder Taylor Swift. “But [we] were unable to get it in the goal.”

With barely any time left in the first half, senior midfielder/forward Georgina Beven made a smooth pass to sophomore midfielder Hannah Flesch, who then scored a goal, bringing the score up to 1-0.

“The first goal was the boost we really needed to get aggressive and start scoring,” said Swift.

With WJ up by one goal after the first half, the team swung the momentum in their favor throughout the second half. Beven added another goal and junior forwards Rachel Skay and Alexis Wang each scored a goal to make the final score 4-0.

The team was thrilled to be the first varsity team to win in WJ’s new stadium and is hoping to have more impressive wins after their first stunning home game.

“The win, and how well we played [during the] second half, definitely is going to encourage us for the upcoming season, especially on tough competition like B-CC and Whitman,” said Swift.
