The 2017 MLB postseason is set which means it is time to preview every team and their chances to raise the Commissioner’s Trophy. It’s time for October baseball starting with the AL and NL Wild Card Games.
American League Wild Card Game:
Minnesota Twins vs. New York Yankees
This should be a great matchup between a historical powerhouse in New York and a team rebounding from a 100 loss season in Minnesota. The Yankees rank 1st in the Major Leagues in home runs especially because of their AL home run leading outfielder Aaron Judge who also set the rookie record for home runs. However, the Twins have an offense including first baseman Joe Mauer who is the only one on both teams combined who hit over .300 this season. The Yankees are 3rd in ERA while the Twins rank 9th for the American League. Overall, the Yankees have a slight advantage in the AL Wild Card Game.
National League Wild Card Game:
Colorado Rockies vs. Arizona Diamondbacks
It’s unfair for these two teams to come down to one final game. As division rivals, they have matched up 19 times this season, Arizona took the season series with 11 wins and 8 losses against Colorado. This game looks different, though, with a great pitching match-up between Zack Greinke and Jon Gray. Greinke is a former Cy Young Award winner and Gray is having a career year. This game has a chance to become the greatest pitching match-up in National League Wild Card Game history, surpassing last year’s Giants vs. Mets match-up with Bumgarner and Syndergaard. Overall, the upset in this one looks likely with the Colorado Rockies advancing in the playoffs.
