Weekly Sports Power Rankings

Weekly Sports Power Rankings

Over the past week in sports, all the WJ fall sport teams have competed. Here are this week’s rankings:

  1. Volleyball- After beating rivals Churchill and Whitman, the Lady Cats improved to 10-0 on the season and have yet to drop a set.
  2. Boys’ Soccer- The boys’ soccer team improved to 5-0 while crushing Seneca Valley 6-0 and beating a very good Blair squad 2-1.
  3. Field Hockey- The team went 4-0 since last Saturday, highlighted by a 1-0 double overtime victory over Quince Orchard.
  4. Cross Country- The boys’ team competed at the Bull Run Invitational, and finished third in the elite race against some of the strongest competition coming from other states.
  5. Golf- The golfers had a very strong week after beating Churchill, Wooton and B-CC in a match.
  6. Girls’ Soccer- The lady soccer players beat Seneca Valley 3-0 but lost to powerhouse Blair by a slim margin in a 0-1 loss.
  7. Football- The boys played a very tight game against Poolesville only to lose 28-35.
  8. Girls’ Tennis-  This team went 2-1 the last week after losing to Churchill 5-2.

Senior Ben Resnick is Co-Editor-in-Chief for The Pitch print edition. Ben began his career on The Pitch as a sophomore, serving as the online sports section editor and the print assistant section editor he continued in by becoming the sports section editor his junior year. Ben also runs cross country in addition to indoor and outdoor track. When he is not competing, he plays basketball, baseball and street hockey. This past summer, Ben worked in the office of biostatistics at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. He is excited to help lead a large motivated group of journalists.
