These are a collection of reviews of WJ’s One Acts Plays – four short plays directed and enacted by students. The plays were performed Thurday, Jan. 7, Friday, Jan. 8, and Saturday, Jan. 9.
The play “The Best Daddy,” written by Shel Silverstein and directed by junior Sophie Meade, is a humorous tale of a loving father (junior Michael Holtzman) who teases his curious daughter (freshman Sophie Spencer-Zavos) when she asks what she got for her birthday.
The story is overall very well-written and directed and has relatively a simple plot and wording, making it easy to follow.
This is one of the funnier plays, with plenty of laugh-out-loud moments to brighten your day. Holtzman used his voice and body language to turn every line into a funny one, and Spencer-Zavos portrayed the role of a whiny 13-year-old very convincingly.
Overall, the simplicity and humor of the play made it one of the most enjoyable performances of the night.
