Overgrowth (PC) is a beautiful indie game that fuses platforming and combat into an elegant, fluid system that makes for a great game, and a better experience. Overgrowth is currently in alpha (early development) and is just a sandbox game that allows you to build a world, and then fight and freerun in that world. There is also a roster of pre-made levels if making a world is too much of a hassle, as well as other player made levels. The combat system is very different from most games, as instead of having a heath bar, the health system is instead based on bone structure and internal anatomy. This means that landing on, say a root, at a bad angle, can puncture a lung or something, and kill you. Forget next gen graphics, this game has cutting-edge root physics! Now granted, this can become frustrating, as one bad jump can ruin a great run. However, this physics engine builds a solid foundation for the game’s combat system. Weapons, such as swords and spears, are available, and they usually kill in one shot, unless you have bad aim. The real draw of this game is that it can be anything it needs to be. A stealth action-adventure, an open world freerunner, an area style brawler, anything. In short, Overgrowth is a great game, though the price is a little steep for an indie game: $30.
