The past week has seen a flurry on violence at U.S embassies in Libya, Egypt and Yemen. The protest in Libya lead to the murder of U.S Ambassador Chris Stevens and was reportedly caused by an anti-Islam American movie from California.
The thing that caught my eye in the midst of this tragedy was the lack of security that accompanied Stevens and his associates in the embassy. Reportedly only one security official was with Stevens and his co-workers during the ordeal, and he left to find more help during the attack. This lack of security, especially in the Middle East, is stunning and a major miscue on the part of the United States.
Obama has already pledged more security at U.S embassies around the world but that shouldn’t cover up this debacle. The lives in the U.S embassies might have been saved if security had been higher. With protests- turned- riots springing up all over the Middle East, we can’t afford another slip-up.
