Face it. The game industry has come a long way. In the past 20 years, we’ve gone from the SNES to PCs with more data processing power than the computers that put a man on the moon. But it never hurts to remember the originals, games that don’t need a supercomputer to run smoothly. Well, meet Super Crate Box, a pixelated, addictive and super fun platformer that centers around one thing: Gather as many crates as you can. The game is currently downloadable for free at its website, supercratebox.com.
Each level is a tiered stage, with monsters coming from above, and with fire at the bottom. If you touch the fire, or any of the monsters, you die. But it’s okay! Crates are popping up all over the stage, with weapons inside. The point of the game is not to kill as many monsters as possible, but in fact to grab as many crates as you possibly can. This is a fun new take on a simple formula that easily manages to entertain for hours on end.
