Ever since their first introduction to the world, movies have impacted society in a multitude of ways. They have forever changed the entertainment industry, and each year all around the world individuals look forward to their most highly anticipated films to come out. This year’s films do not plan on disappointing.
In fact, the movies that have so far been released have mostly been a success. For example, the Mean Girls musical. There have been mixed reviews; however, it is safe to say the majority enjoyed viewing it. “Dune: Part Two” can be added to the list of movies that have dominated the box office this year; in Rotten Tomatoes its audience score is no less than 95%. Other prosperous movies that have come out so far are “Kung Fu Panda 4,” “Bob Marley: One Love,”
“Madame Web” and “Challengers” amongst others.
However, unlike other movies released earlier this year, “Argylle” was a failure. It was promoted at the beginning of the year and it seemed promising, yet when it came out in February it did nothing but disappoint. It failed to meet the expectations at the box office, making less than what was predicted and ultimately losing money.
Moving on to the month of May, anticipated upcoming films include: “The Fall Guy” (May 3), an action comedy film adaption of the 1980s series “The Fall Guy” starring Ryan Gosling, “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” (May 10), “Back to Black” (May 10), a biopic of the life of Amy Winehouse starring Marisa Abela, “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” (May 24) and “Garfield” (May 24).
The summer is also promising. Expected releases include: “Hit Man” (June 7), “Bad Boys 4” (June 14), “Inside Out 2” (June 14), the sequel to a beloved movie from the childhood of many, “The Bikeriders” (June 21), “Despicable Me 4” (July 3), “Maxxxine” (July 5), “Deadpool & Wolverine” (July 26) and others.
“I really liked the first movie [‘Inside Out’], which was a success, and since I was a kid watching the sequel now as a teenager will definitely be nostalgic,” junior Arnoldo Bolanos said.
From September to October, it is foreseen the movie roster will include movies such as “Beetlejuice 2” (Sept. 6), “Transformers One” (Sept. 20), “Joker: Folie a Deux” (Oct. 4), “Smile 2” (Oct. 18), and “Terrifier 3” (Oct. 25).
“I’m a pretty big fan of horror movies, so I can’t wait for all the horror movies that are coming out — especially in October. Perfect timing!” junior Francesca Lisbino said.
Finally, to close the year, expected movies include: “Venom 3” (Nov. 8), “Gladiator 2” (Nov. 22), “Moana 2” (Nov. 27), “Wicked” (Nov. 27), “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim” (Dec. 9), “Mufasa: The Lion King” (Dec. 20), “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” (Dec. 20) etc.
“I’m excited to watch ‘Gladiator 2’ because it’s been a while since the first one came out and I think it’s interesting there is a sequel,” senior Herling Narvaez said.
It seems like a big portion of the movies coming out this year are sequels and sagas, making them the most highly anticipated ones since the audience already has an idea of how the story will play out. Overall, expected movies seem full of potential and optimistically they won’t end up like “Argylle” or any other underperforming movie released this year.
