Year in review: What did 2021 mean to us?

  • “For me, it was hopefully a year of new beginnings but it didn’t end up that way. I think that I was hoping it would be a reset year and a year for societal advancements as well as Covid,” senior Olivia Pletter said.

  • “2021 was a rebuilding year for us. I would say a coach after all the seniors retire feels like ‘okay this is a rebuilding year’ and I feel like that’s the same for education too. In math especially because if you missed a year of another subject it would not mean as much but if you missed learning things in math, that’s a problem. For us especially, this feels like we have a lot of ground to make up,” math teacher John Chase said.

  • “2021 meant flexibility because everything that I thought would go back to normal didn’t go back to normal so flexibility was needed in everything from my home life to my work life. I just have to be flexible and understanding of everyone and they need to be flexible and understanding with me,” administrator Gail Samuels said.

  • “It meant getting back together with the people you love. We’ve finally had the opportunity to get back together with family and friends we didn’t see the previous year because of Covid lockdowns,” English teacher Amy Vachon said.

  • “2021 was a rough year mainly because of online school but it helped me develop and realize different things in life and had me learning a lot overall. I was able to find myself better,” junior Sarah Lawrence said.

  • “Well, the pandemic stopped so 2021 was automatically much better than the previous year. It was a fun year we were able to go back to in-person school and I I started high school,” freshman Yaman Alosh said.

  • “I thought 2021 would be a new start but it wasn’t really. Regardless, it meant a lot of fun to me and I had a ton of fun with my friends,” senior Zane Agarwal said.

  • “2021 meant family to me because I spent a lot of time with my family because of Covid so I couldn’t go out as much. But it is also starting to get more relaxed with Covid rules so I start playing baseball and was able to see my friends more. It wasn’t as boring as 2020 and that was a good thing for me,” sophomore Jojo Liebrecht said.

  • “2021 was a time of growth for me. It really taught me that the only person who would be there to push me to do things would be myself. I think that was an important lesson going forward in life,” sophomore Leire Vasquez said.

  • “For me, 2021 was two sides of a coin. One side that was the chaos of being at home, and virtual school, and everything that came with it to transitioning back to more normal life and being able to move forward with things. The last half was much better than the first half,” social studies teacher Nicolas Atencio said.

  • “2021 to me meant learning a lot of new things, experiencing new things, and going back to school was a huge part of it,” freshman Angie Adele said.

  • “It was a meaningful year. I spent a lot of time online for school so I was able to form a lot of new friendships when we went back to school,” junior James Zogby said.
