Coming Up: Super Bowl XLVIII

On Sunday, Feb. 2, the Seattle Seahawks will take on the Denver Broncos for the 48th annual Super Bowl. The game will be played at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, home of both the New York Giants and the New York Jets.

Super Bowl XLVIII will be the first Super Bowl played outside in cold weather. Workers at MetLife are currently clearing snow from the field, a result of the storm Janus. According to USA Today, it is possible that the game could be rescheduled for a different time, either before or after the intended date, due to weather.

The Denver Broncos, led by quarterback Peyton Manning, defeated the New England Patriots to become the AFC Champions and advance to the Super Bowl. They have a 13-3 record and have been on top of their game all season. This is the seventh Super Bowl for the Broncos. Manning is the only player in Super Bowl XLVIII to already have a ring, and he is the third starting quarterback to make it to the Super Bowl with two different teams. If the Broncos win this Super Bowl, Manning will be the first starting quarterback to win two Super Bowls with two different teams.

The Seattle Seahawks are led by quarterback Russell Wilson and defeated the San Francisco 49ers to be named NFC Champions and move on to the Super Bowl. They also have a 13-3 record. The last and only other time the Seahawks were in the Super Bowl was 2005, when they fell to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Both teams were also the number one seeds in their respective conferences. According to BleacherReport.com, the Broncos have the best offense in the league and the Seahawks have the best defense in the league, based on each team’s respective stats.

The halftime show will feature performances by rock and roll hall-of-famers Red Hot Chili Peppers with Bruno Mars.

Kickoff is at 6:30 p.m. on FOX.
